Arduino - an open-source PIC platform

Arduino - This is another litter gadget I would like to buy and try out. It's a PIC prototyping board with a USB connection to connect to your computer. What makes it different from other prototyping board is that it's open-source. There is a large community behind the project. IDE development tools could be downloaded free of charge. And you could buy it easily around the world. If you are interested in this, I would recommend you to read the tutorial from the following link. If you are new to PIC, this is a an good introduction. Inside of the Octopus Card (八達通)

With the hope to extract the chips from my normal-sized Octopus and made a smaller Octopus card, I search around on the net for a solution. I found one indeed but the size reduction is not promising at all. Below link to the website for instruction ( http://www.anpan2.ath.cx/eddy/index.php?fpath=main9.html ). The card was soaked in thinner to dissolve the plastic cover from the circuit board. Once that's done, the antenna was folded to reduced the card size. Due to the large size of the antenna, the overall size of the card could not be reduced much. The left picture below is the original circuit and the right one has the antenna folded (new size: 76 x 46mm). If you really want a reduced size Octopus chips, the best is to get the one from the mini Octopus card or the Octopus watch. For me, I decided to abandon my original idea... both the mini Octopus and the Octopus watch are too expensive if the only purpose is to get the chips.

Rooting and free up space on my HTC Desire

Use Unrevoked 3 to root the machine ( http://www.htcdesireforum. com/htc-desire-how-to/% 28guide%29-rootin-flashing- rom/ ). I didn’t flash new ROM and that’s not needed for me. Use Revolutionary to gain myself s-off right so that I could manipulate files in the system area ( http://revolutionary.io/ ) Bought Titanium Backup Pro to aid my management work. The money I spent is well worth. You might be able to find free app to do that or via the console/adb interface; TBP has automated most of the work and you don’t have to worry about different steps. What I did was, Remove unused system apps (stored in /system/app) For those system app with latest version user area, update the system one with the latest version in user area . For certain critical apps I prefer to present all the time even when the SD card is unmounted, convert them to system app (e.g. input methods). For other apps, move them to SD. Somehow, TBP could move app that’s could not be moved normally in 2.2. And no...
