Blinking screen with my ATI Display Card

The story with my new 20" LCD Monitor has not ended....

Now, my LCD monitor is blinking from time to time. This happened more often when I am accessing the network. Happened only when I am using the DVI cable. You just couldn't imagine how annoyed by this I am. I hate the ATI display card. And it appears to be a common problem. Try searching "ATI blinking" and you will see tons of links from all the angry ATI customers.

To save your time, now the solution I found. I think it applies to different ATI display cards.

In ATI Control Catalyst software, on the Attributes screen, enable "Reduce DVI frequency on high-resolution displays". If this doesn't work, try "Alternate DVI operational mode". BTW, I am using 1680 x 1050.

If you put your mouse over the option, you will see the help text to ask you to select them if you have corrupted display.

(Updated 2008-02-17) I tried to update my ATI driver to 9.1 but the same problem happened even after I used the above options. Rollback to the original 8.5 resolves the problem. What a nuisance!

(Updated 2009-06-15) Problem fixed lastly. I replaced my display card with a GeForce GS8400. And I am happy.

I had problem with blinking when I start/exit any game.
Actually disabling "Alternative DVI operational mode" (which was turned on probably by default) solved the issue.
